our intention to provide you with information and links, in this site,
that inform you of our operations and answer all questions that you may
have about our City. Please consider this site your prime resource
center for information about a great but small undiscovered secret that
offers many opportunities.
McComb is a small city located
in the central southwest corner of Mississippi fifteen miles from the
Louisiana state line on Interstate 55. It was chartered in 1872 and was
and still is considered the hub of Pike County. It was the home of the
Illinois Central Gulf Railroad yards and the largest city in the county.
The main line of the Illinois Central (now the Canadian National
Railroad) passes thru the city in a direct route from New Orleans to
Chicago. Major highways passing thru the city are U.S. Highway 98 running
from Mobile to Natchez and Highway 51 which runs from New Orleans to
Minneapolis. The 2000 Census
population is approximately 13,500 and the
population of Pike County is 39,000.
McComb has a history of a
stable economic base with the railroad shops having had a 70 year
association with the area. The emphasis today is on transportation and
small industrial operations tied to the interstate highway system as
well as a strong local agricultural economy. The city is a combination
of old well maintained subdivisions around a central downtown core as
well as shopping malls and suburbs on both the east and west sides of
town. It may be characterized as having a wide range of good housing,
good shopping and good schools (both secondary and a strong community
college) it is the type of town that many people grew up in and want to
go back today. The availability of a wide range of residences as well as
a strong sense of community make it an ideal retirement place and it is
close to New Orleans, Jackson, and Baton Rouge. As our mayor says, "It's
a privilege to live in McComb." Come and see us and see how true this
is.
